Primobius now a certified waste management company

Hilchenbach, 01. Feb. 2023

After successfully completing the audit, Primobius at the Hilchenbach site can now call itself a specialist waste disposal company. The corresponding certificate and document have already been presented.

"When disposing of their batteries, our customers want to be sure that their disposal company meets all legal requirements and disposes of the batteries properly. With the certification as a specialist disposal company and the corresponding certificate, we prove that we safely comply with all requirements. In this way, we create the necessary trust in our service performance at the Hilchenbach recycling site", says Alexander Sacherow, General Manager Production of the Primobius recycling facility in Hilchenbach.

Manufacturers of electric vehicles and consumer electronics, amongst others, will have to recover used materials in order to achieve sustainability objectives and recover valuable materials. They must recycle lithium-ion batteries at the end of their life cycle or entrust others with this task.

Since mid-2022 Primobius is operating the stage 1 of its recycling plant in Hilchenbach. This offers customers the opportunity to dispose of their lithium-ion batteries of types NMC (lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxides), NCA (lithium nickel cobalt aluminum oxides), or LCO (lithium cobalt oxides) from consumer electronics or electric vehicles in Hilchenbach in a sustainable way.

Primobius is the result of a joint venture partnership between Australian Stock Exchange listed company Neometals Ltd. and private German engineering and technology company, SMS group. Primobius is to commercialize advanced recycling technology, offering a unique and sustainable method for recovering valuable lithium, nickel, cobalt and other materials from expended and scrap electric vehicles and consumer electronics LiB’s. Recovered and refined product materials will be reformed and re-applied back into the battery supply chain.
